TALI Session 1A: Foundations of Cross-Linguistic Transfer & Diagnostic Data Collection

This session introduces an asset-based approach to bilingual literacy development, helping participants understand how students draw on Spanish linguistic knowledge as they develop literacy in English. Participants will explore Spanish–English linguistic relationships using the Translinguistic Tool for Teachers of English Learners (T3EL) Translinguistic Tables (Antúnez-Gamon & Florez, 2026), examine what spelling reveals about students’ phonological and orthographic knowledge, and learn to administer and score the LETRS Spelling Inventory.
