Leading Schools of Education Toward the Science of Learning

September 28, 1:00 - 3:00 MT

The Science of Reading is part of a larger body of research on how learning happens, where things can go wrong, and the instructional approaches that are most likely to be effective. As courses on reading move toward evidence-based practices, there can be a disconnect with other courses on math, science, or even the arts within the School of Education. A consistent approach to teaching and learning will support teacher candidates with effective preparation.

In this session, you will hear from Dr. Laura Saylor, Dean of the School of Education, and Dr. Amy Murdoch, Assistant Dean & Program Director of Reading Science from Mount St Joseph University. Dr. Saylor & Dr. Murdoch will share how they lead their faculty on a journey of change toward the science of learning across the entire School of Education. You will learn why this work is important and gather practical strategies for how to make change in your setting.
