Morphological awareness is important for lower grades too! But what does this mean for our instruction? Our students come to us with an acquired morphological production, an implicit knowledge about language, that is expressed through their use of oral and receptive language. Our work is to create an awareness of that knowledge. Are you curious about words and how children develop language? Come and find out how we can do that in the lower grades K-3. We will clarify what morphology is, and explore many ways to draw attention to morphemes through language, the read-aloud, decoding, and spelling. You already have many tools in place to create morphological awareness – let’s discover what those tools are and apply them meaningfully to build morphological awareness!
